Frequently Asked Questions

A riser recliner chair is a specially designed armchair that helps you sit down and stand up with ease. Using an electric motor, the chair gently rises and tilts forward to assist you in standing, and reclines backward for comfort and relaxation.
Riser recliners are ideal for people with limited mobility, older adults, or anyone who finds it difficult to sit and stand from a standard chair. They’re also popular for general comfort, especially for those who spend long periods sitting.
  • Single motor chairs – one motor controls both the footrest and backrest together.
  • Dual motor chairs – separate motors allow independent movement of the backrest and footrest for more flexible positioning.
  • Wall-hugger models – designed to recline without needing much space behind the chair. Also known as Tilt-in-space.

The right size depends on your height, weight, and how you plan to use the chair. Key things to check are:

  • Seat height – your feet should rest flat on the floor.
  • Seat depth – you should sit back fully without pressure behind your knees.
  • Weight capacity – ensure the chair can safely support you.
The price of a riser recliner depends on build quality, materials, and design. Budget-friendly imported models, usually priced around £500–£800, tend to be made in one size with fewer features. In contrast, higher-quality chairs costing £1,000–£3,000+ are available in multiple sizes to properly fit the user, use more durable mechanisms, and are often hand-built in the UK or Europe. These premium chairs are not just longer-lasting — they also provide better ergonomic support, helping with posture, circulation, and joint comfort, which can make a real difference to long-term health and wellbeing.
Yes, most riser recliners are powered by mains electricity. Some models also come with a battery backup, so the chair can still return to an upright position in the event of a power cut.
In some cases, if you have a medical need and are assessed by an occupational therapist, you may be eligible for an NHS-provided chair. However, many people choose to purchase privately for faster access and a wider choice of designs.
Yes, most suppliers offer warranties, typically covering 1–5 years. It’s important to check whether both the electrics and the frame are included.
Most mobility and furniture stores allow you to try different chairs in their showroom. Our directory helps you find local shops where you can test a chair for size and comfort before making a decision.
Yes, if you have a chronic illness or disability, you may be eligible to purchase your riser recliner without paying VAT. Ask the retailer for a VAT exemption form when buying.
